KIDDIES'/CHILDRENS' PLAY AREA AND ENTERTAINMENTThe Rondekuil Restaurant and new children's play area will be opened to the public from November/December 2011 onwards Families and friends attending functions at the Rondekuil Venue escape from town to the glorious winelands countryside, while their children play in a safe, enclosed garden area. In an article published in The Weekend Argus dated 4th September 2010, Professor Mike Burton wrote: "……….I have even heard comments from several teachers, untested as yet, that children from historically disadvantaged communities in South Africa may be better prepared for school than kids from rich backgrounds. The former have had ample opportunity for "free play" in three-dimensional environments, even if their toys are cans, bottles and stones, whereas the latter have been locked into two-dimensional digital environments since an early age. Of course, there is no doubt that computers have been a huge boon to education in many ways because they provide access to an enormous amount of information and teach vital programming skills. But I argue that the kids still need "free play" time in a three-dimensional, preferably outdoor, environments to grow up as fully rounded adults." Professor Burton is the founder of the MTN Sciencentre in Cape Town and has had a lifelong interest in the process of learning. He also has a specialist consultancy in Cape Town. Apart from catering for children in the restaurant, Rondekuil will by about November 2012 provide fun activities :
